Two Great Reviews: Check Them Out!
The Tale of Despereaux By: Kate DiCamillo. The Tale of Despereaux is a wonderful story filled with love, danger, mice, and rats. There are four different parts to this story. Part 1:Part one is about Despereaux Tilling, a small mouse with large ears and who was born with his eyes open and not like other mice. Despereaux gets in trouble and is sent to the dungeon.Part 2:Part two is about Chiaroscuro, a rat who is not like other rats who live in the dungeon- he loves light. One day, he goes upstairs to the light and falls into the queen's soup and the queen. . . You'll have to read the book to find out that part.Part 3:Part three is about Miggery Sow, a girl who's pa sold her to another man for a handful of cigarettes, a red tablecloth, and a hen. Then, later, she is taken to the castle.Part 4:Part four is about Miggery and she becomes a part of a rat's evil plan. Except Miggery doesn't know that the plan is evil. There is much, much more to the story, but if you want to find out more, check out the book about a mouse, a princess, some soup, and a spool of thread.
Miss Laurie's note: The Tale of Despereaux will be receiving the big-screen treatment soon; look for it in theaters. But remember: the book is almost always better!

Donovan's Diaries
Diary of a Spider by Doreen Cronin
I like it, because it's a diary of a bug, from the bug's point of view. They have a few things that humans do, like go to school. It's not just for boys and not just for girls, it's for both. Parents would like it also, because it's silly.
Diary of a Fly by Doreen Cronin

This book is about everything about dragons. It shows maps on a few other pages and one big one which shows where dragons were. They found dragons in Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe, three in Asia, Africa, Australia and one in the water. The book showed scales. More scales. More scales. The bones, the mustles, and the body parts (fangs, teeth, scales, horns, large bat-like wings, etc.). Some can fly and some can not fly.It talks about how it grows into a dragon. It starts as an egg. It takes 36 months for a dragon to grow. They show dragon dust. It's really pretty. On the other side, the dust is pretty because they show it on the other side too.The book is pretty inside it and outside it.
Curious George by H.A. Rey
Curious George lives in Africa. He was a good, little monkey and he was always very, very, extremely curious. The yellow man saw him and George came off a tree. George put the man's hat on but couldn't see, then the man took off the hat. George was popped into a bag. George was caught. This is very interesting. Why is George smoking? His clothes were a little too big for him when he went to bed. George rowed on a boat to a dock and then got on a big ship.George went out on the front of the boat. He saw seagulls flying and wondered if he could fly like a bird. He tried and first he flied then he fell in the water. When he was back safe, he climbed up a house and saw some people with balloons. George tried to get a red one for himself except that he got all the balloons and flew away. They had to run far! George saw everybody and they looked like dolls and toy houses. Soon the wind stopped. He landed on a traffic light. The yellow man yelled "George!". The man paid for all of the balloons. He went to the zoo where George could live and all the animals had a balloon.

This book is about one grinch and a bunch of Whos. The grinch pretended he was santa and stole everything from the Whos. He stole it because he didn't like Christmas. He thought the Whos would be sad the next day because they didn't have any presents. He went to give a Who a glass of water and the other Whos were sleeping. The grinch was gonna dump the presents down on the ground off a big hill. Then he heard singing. Then the dog with the horns on his head pushed the grinch down the hill on his sled. The grinch stood on the bags blowing a big horn.At the end of the story, the grinch carved the roast beast with himself and the Whos. Even the Whos and the grinch ate it.

The day before yesterday I read a book called Harry The Poisonous Centipede Goes To The Sea. It is about three poisonous centipedes that travel from a tropical island to a city. (I can't tell you which because we don't want collecters going there to capture them for their collections.) For a while people thought that that particular kind of giant centipede was extinct. It is a great book. Miranda 7

It is very good. I liked reading it because it takes me to a new world. I love all the characters in it. It is so fun reading it. And I wish I could be in the book doing all these cool things with them. When I look at the pictures they are very good. Because when I look at the pictures, the people kind of look real. I like that Simon keeps all these cool pets. But my favorite are Jeffrey and Lemondrop. They are the mice. I like the Bogart. I like when Jared reads the book about the faries and the brownies and the troll. It is so fun. I like when they made a new house for Bogart. I liked when Jared and Simon went into the dumb waiter. The Cupid Chronicles
This book is about a girl and her mother who is a retired wedding planner. Their town, Cape Cod, has a library, and the girl is traving to save it from closing along with dealing with her social life. The sequel to this book, The Wedding Planner's Daughter, is a great book as well.

Andrew, 4th Grader, Recommends:
I like this book because it is funny. It is funny because there is a pumpkin man who takes the teacher and brings her up the flag pole and Franny has to make a meat man out of the kids' lunches and the meat man has to shake the pole to make the pumpkin man drop the teacher. Franny puts the bread from the kids' lunches under the flag pole so the teacher can have a safe fall. That is why this book is funny.
Franny K. Stein, Mad Scientist: The Invisible Fran
In this book the class has to show their hobbies so Franny makes a robot. She drinks a formula to make herself invisible and tells the kids to fix the robot but since she was invisible it was like they were thinking. The kids think they are mad scientists because they fixed the robot instead of Franny. Before school they accidentally make the robot stupid so it destroys part of the school. In the end they use their hobbies to destroy the robot.

I read The Deliverance of Bears by Elizabeth Stanley. I think it was one of the best books I've read. It's about the freedom and happinessof bears and what someone did to save a bear that was being tortured. He bought the bear with the money he earned to buy something he needed.
I read the book Hoot by Carl Hiaasen and I thought the author put so much details that you can picture being there. It never gets boring because there is always something happening. Every time I read a chapter I couldn't wait to read more. It felt like I was in the position the kids in the story were in. I never wanted to stop. Hoot is about three kids trying to save owls. Their homes are being destroyed by bulldozers to build a pancake house. The builders don't believe the kids when they say that owls live there. Will the kids stand up to the builders and save the owls? You'll have to read the book to find out.
I read Ellen Tebbits and I thought the author put you in the situation that the characters were in. It's about two best friends surviving school and friendships. I loved the words she used.
I read the book The Sight. It's very sad, exciting, scary, and surprising. It's all about wolves and what's going on in their lives. There's an evil wolf named Morgra who's trying to kill another pack of wolves. Will she kill them or won't she? Read it and find out!
Andrew Clements is my favorite author!
Great for Summer Reading!
I like the book No English because I like the way Diane wanted to make up for being a tattle tale on Blanca just because she was drawing in a spelling bee. I think it would be hard to be nowhere near pepole that you understand. She was the only one in her school that was from Argentina. One day when her class was in the library Diane saw a book with Spanish and gave it to Blanca. When she opened it her eyes lit up. She thanked Diane and they became friends. When they went back to the class room it was time for a spelling bee. This time Diane drew pictures of each other. They where sent to the office and the principal asked to see their pictures and he hung them outside the office door. They were happy.
