Two Great Reviews: Check Them Out!

Do you love the High School Musical Movies? If you do, then you'll love the Stories From East High: Battle of the Bands. I read this book and it was great! I think you're gonna love it!The story is based on High School Musical and High School Musical 2. This story is about East High's very first battle of the bands. Anyone can enter: groups, duets, or solos. Sharpay formed a girl group with drama club friends Alicia and Charlotte, and Taylor McKessie from the chemistry lab. Troy has formed a guy group with his basketball buddies, Chad, Zeke, and Jason. While all this is happening, Gabriella and Ryan are left in the shadows. While everyone is making music, Gabriella signed up to tutor another student and Ryan signed up to be tutored by antother student. Then they find out that Gabriella is tutoring Ryan! Then, Ms. Darbus talked Gabriella into doing a solo for the battle of the bands. So she starts working on her song with Kelsi. Then Sharpay screams at Ryan and accidentally loses her voice. Will Sharpay's voice come back in time for her to win, or will she just have to give up this award?Read:High School Musical: Stories From East High: #1 Battle of the Bands.

The Tale of Despereaux By: Kate DiCamillo. The Tale of Despereaux is a wonderful story filled with love, danger, mice, and rats. There are four different parts to this story. Part 1:Part one is about Despereaux Tilling, a small mouse with large ears and who was born with his eyes open and not like other mice. Despereaux gets in trouble and is sent to the dungeon.Part 2:Part two is about Chiaroscuro, a rat who is not like other rats who live in the dungeon- he loves light. One day, he goes upstairs to the light and falls into the queen's soup and the queen. . . You'll have to read the book to find out that part.Part 3:Part three is about Miggery Sow, a girl who's pa sold her to another man for a handful of cigarettes, a red tablecloth, and a hen. Then, later, she is taken to the castle.Part 4:Part four is about Miggery and she becomes a part of a rat's evil plan. Except Miggery doesn't know that the plan is evil. There is much, much more to the story, but if you want to find out more, check out the book about a mouse, a princess, some soup, and a spool of thread.

Miss Laurie's note: The Tale of Despereaux will be receiving the big-screen treatment soon; look for it in theaters. But remember: the book is almost always better!

Hannah's Reads

I read a book called "The Year with Miss Agnes." It was about a teacher in Alaska who came from England. The teacher's name is Miss Agnes. She was very friendly to the girl in the story and her sister, who was deaf. The book took place a long time ago. It's a really sweet book and good for schools. Schools should be doing the same things she has done in Alaska.

I also read another book called "All of A Kind Family" by Sydney Taylor. It's a really good book because there are 6 sisters and they live in New York in 1900.

Dragonology: The Complete Book of Dragons
This book is about everything about dragons. It shows maps on a few other pages and one big one which shows where dragons were. They found dragons in Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe, three in Asia, Africa, Australia and one in the water. The book showed scales. More scales. More scales. The bones, the mustles, and the body parts (fangs, teeth, scales, horns, large bat-like wings, etc.). Some can fly and some can not fly.It talks about how it grows into a dragon. It starts as an egg. It takes 36 months for a dragon to grow. They show dragon dust. It's really pretty. On the other side, the dust is pretty because they show it on the other side too.The book is pretty inside it and outside it.

Curious George by H.A. Rey
Curious George lives in Africa. He was a good, little monkey and he was always very, very, extremely curious. The yellow man saw him and George came off a tree. George put the man's hat on but couldn't see, then the man took off the hat. George was popped into a bag. George was caught. This is very interesting. Why is George smoking? His clothes were a little too big for him when he went to bed. George rowed on a boat to a dock and then got on a big ship.George went out on the front of the boat. He saw seagulls flying and wondered if he could fly like a bird. He tried and first he flied then he fell in the water. When he was back safe, he climbed up a house and saw some people with balloons. George tried to get a red one for himself except that he got all the balloons and flew away. They had to run far! George saw everybody and they looked like dolls and toy houses. Soon the wind stopped. He landed on a traffic light. The yellow man yelled "George!". The man paid for all of the balloons. He went to the zoo where George could live and all the animals had a balloon.

Miranda Recommends...

A while ago I read a book called 20,000 leagues under the sea. It was about a submarine called the Nautalis that travels in almost all the oceans and seas in the world. They even go to the south pole where no one has ever been before. (This happened a long time ago.) I think it was a great book. Miranda

The day before yesterday I read a book called Harry The Poisonous Centipede Goes To The Sea. It is about three poisonous centipedes that travel from a tropical island to a city. (I can't tell you which because we don't want collecters going there to capture them for their collections.) For a while people thought that that particular kind of giant centipede was extinct. It is a great book. Miranda 7

One from Madison

"Who is Pippi Longstocking?" Well, Pippi Longstocking is a young orphan girl who thinks her mother is an angel and her father is "King of the Natives." She meets two very well mannered chidren named Tommy and Annika who live next store to "Villa Villekulla", which by the way is Pippi's house. Pippi has extrordanary adventures. She turns into a thing finder, is an acrobat, and goes on an expedition.

Pippi Longstocking is by Astrid Lindgren.

Do you like sports? Anonymous does!

A summer favorite will probably be Heat by Mike Lupica. Everyone loves baseball, right? Well, Michael Arroyo especially does! He is the best pitcher on the team. But the problem is, someone doesn't like that he can do what he does best. Pitch. So he accuses him of being older than he should be. When he is taken off the team, he needs to find his birth certificate. But it's back in Cuba. With the help of his favorite baseball player, a mysterious girl, and hope, he could make it back to baseball. Or end up watching on the sidelines.

A Historical Fiction Favorite

I recommend reading Hang A Thousand Trees With Ribbons by Ann Rinaldi. It is a book about Phillis Wheatley. She was a slave at first, but her family who bought her was nice. When their son, Nathaniel, teaches her to read and write, she starts to write poems. Through the tough times of losing her mom and not seeing a friend, to the good times of having a book and getting married, she had courage.

Two Favorites

Two books I liked were Nicki and Thanks to Nicki. They are about a girl who is afraid to say no. One morning her mom asks her if she could train and take care of a leader dog because her Mom is having a baby and can't. Nicki can' t say no. In the end Nicki learns how to say no. When it was time to give the dog away Nicki was sad. Those are two books I liked.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
I love this book! J.K. Rowling, the author, did a wonderful job of writing it. It is about a wizard and his problems and friends at a wizard school called Hogwarts. Then Harry and his friends find out about a special stone and try to save it. This is an excellent book and you should read it.

The Cupid Chronicles
This book is about a girl and her mother who is a retired wedding planner. Their town, Cape Cod, has a library, and the girl is traving to save it from closing along with dealing with her social life. The sequel to this book, The Wedding Planner's Daughter, is a great book as well.

Andrew, 4th Grader, Recommends:

Franny K Stein, Mad Scientist: Lunch Walks Among Us

I like this book because it is funny. It is funny because there is a pumpkin man who takes the teacher and brings her up the flag pole and Franny has to make a meat man out of the kids' lunches and the meat man has to shake the pole to make the pumpkin man drop the teacher. Franny puts the bread from the kids' lunches under the flag pole so the teacher can have a safe fall. That is why this book is funny.

Franny K. Stein, Mad Scientist: The Invisible Fran

In this book the class has to show their hobbies so Franny makes a robot. She drinks a formula to make herself invisible and tells the kids to fix the robot but since she was invisible it was like they were thinking. The kids think they are mad scientists because they fixed the robot instead of Franny. Before school they accidentally make the robot stupid so it destroys part of the school. In the end they use their hobbies to destroy the robot.

Some Anonymous Reviews

The book Sarah Plain and Tall was great . I was really sad when I found out the kids' mom died.

I read The Deliverance of Bears by Elizabeth Stanley. I think it was one of the best books I've read. It's about the freedom and happinessof bears and what someone did to save a bear that was being tortured. He bought the bear with the money he earned to buy something he needed.

I read the book Hoot by Carl Hiaasen and I thought the author put so much details that you can picture being there. It never gets boring because there is always something happening. Every time I read a chapter I couldn't wait to read more. It felt like I was in the position the kids in the story were in. I never wanted to stop. Hoot is about three kids trying to save owls. Their homes are being destroyed by bulldozers to build a pancake house. The builders don't believe the kids when they say that owls live there. Will the kids stand up to the builders and save the owls? You'll have to read the book to find out.

I read Ellen Tebbits and I thought the author put you in the situation that the characters were in. It's about two best friends surviving school and friendships. I loved the words she used.

I read the book The Sight. It's very sad, exciting, scary, and surprising. It's all about wolves and what's going on in their lives. There's an evil wolf named Morgra who's trying to kill another pack of wolves. Will she kill them or won't she? Read it and find out!

Andrew Clements is my favorite author!

The book The School Story was so good . It was by the author i like most. I had even gotten the book at Baldwin for completing 24 activities in the summer reading last year.

Great for Summer Reading!

I like the book Diary of a Fly because I like the way that they try to teach each other what they do best and neither can succeed. I think it'sfunny that Spider laughs so hard that he falls out of his tree. Irecommend it to anyone who likes funny stories.

I like the book No English because I like the way Diane wanted to make up for being a tattle tale on Blanca just because she was drawing in a spelling bee. I think it would be hard to be nowhere near pepole that you understand. She was the only one in her school that was from Argentina. One day when her class was in the library Diane saw a book with Spanish and gave it to Blanca. When she opened it her eyes lit up. She thanked Diane and they became friends. When they went back to the class room it was time for a spelling bee. This time Diane drew pictures of each other. They where sent to the office and the principal asked to see their pictures and he hung them outside the office door. They were happy.

I liked the book Little Women. It is about five girls growing up while there ma works and father is at war. It is all about how they grow up and where there journeys take them. I liked the book Amelia's Notebook. It is about a girl who is moving from her old house and has to leave all her precious things behind (like her best friend). She also has an anoying sister named Cleo. I like it because it is not a book book it has lots of misspellings and pictures. Amelia I think has a great sense of humor. Haunted Castle on Hallow's Eve by Mary Pope Osborne. Review by Isaac N., age 6. This book has good words and pictures. I like this book very much. I like this part about when they were surrounded by ravens: The raven king said “Where are the two ravens that stole my Diamond?” “What diamond,” said Annie. The raven king held a birdcage. The raven king said they looked like this one. Annie and jack said teddy well said the ravenKing. It looks like I caught a little teddy. Don’t you think he’ll be a good pet? Said the Raven King. You’d better let him go, said Jack or else. Yeah, you’d better let him go, said Annie, or else. Or Else what, said the Raven King. Jack reached for the magic twig but the Raven got it first. “Hey,” said Annie “That’s Rok.” “Give it to me,” said the Raven King. “No,” said Annie. “Don’t let him boss you around anymore.” “Give us the diamond,” said Annie

Johnny Cash Biography

“Hello, I’m Johnny Cash”. This was the way Johnny Cash introduced himself at each of his performances, and this seems like a good way to introduce the biography to you. Johnny Cash, also known as “the Man in Black”, was a famous country music singer. Originally from Arkansas, Johnny Cash suffered hardships in his childhood, and his mother’s singing was his first musical influence. Johnny was known for being a very polite and nice man. Through his singing career, Johnny Cash won 15 Grammy Awards and an MTV award! To find out more about the fascinating details of this great artist’s life, read Upclose: Johnny Cash by Anne E. Gabby's Choices

The Princess School-If The Shoe Fits #1 By: Gabby. I read that book and it's for someone who loves fantasy and princesses. It goes off of Snow White, Cinderella, and stuff like that. It's also a series so there's a lot of them to read. Hope to see people reading it!

I read Lion Boy and I think that if you like mysteries and fantasies then this is the book for you! It says to be continued at the end and then there's a book called Lion Boy the truth and one called Lion Boy the chase that follow the first one. I hope you read it!
